I. Introduction
The personal
computer, or "PC" for short, has made triumphant advances into daily life
since its
advent in the
late 1970's. Nowadays, it is probably the most important instrument at
our ready disposal,
as PC's the
size of a briefcase have quickly replaced mainframes. PC's control, in
great part, our
worldwide stream
of information, aid in production, control transport systems, and evaluate
most of the
data of our
financial economy. In spite of all these activities, they do not become
tired or ill, like their
human colleagues.
There are further
advantages to the PC: it is easy to expand, extremely flexible, unfeeling
and not
likely to be
distracted, and therefore capable of working 24 hours a day. Its only needs
are electricity
