American Civil War

After the northern states, led by Abraham Lincoln as their president, said, they would end slavery in the whole United States of America, in december of 1860 the states South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas declared their independence from the "Union", that's how the northern states called themselves. In February 1861 the South founded the 'Confederate States of America'. They made Jefferson Davis their own president. In April and May of the same year Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina joined the Confederation. The Union stood for industry and progress, while the Confederation was standing for traditions and slavery. The Union wanted freedom for all people, not only for white men, because so it could be read in the laws ("All human are equal."). But the Confederation just wanted to be let alone by all that fighters against slavery. They wanted to have their own country, the Confederate States of America.
