America - a melting pot, a salad bowl or a pizza of people?
First of all, there are no "real" Americans, apart from the Indians. These are really the native inhabitants of America. But a lot of people came and still come from all the parts of the world to the United States. They hope to find a better life there. So America is a land of mixed cultures, religions, races and nationalities, and all the people who went and go there, wanted and want to fulfil their dreams.
America is best known for its unlimited opportunities and its motto, that says, that you can make it if you only try hard enough. So for many people the big chance of a new and better live was going to America.
Although there are one folk, they are still separated from each other. The different races live in different areas, such as Chinatown.
An no matter how different they are, they are all Americans. America provides liberty with its acts and its constitution, so that all inhabitants can be free.
I don't think America is a melting pot because the different races are still separated from each other. The "salad bowl" maybe is a better expression for America, because many ingredients are put in one "bowl", without mixing them to one mass. But I think a "pizza of people" is the best expression, because all the ingredients are put together, and if one was missing, it wouldn't taste like a pizza.
