ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1809 - 1865)
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president (1861 - 65) of the United States of America, was born on February 12th, 1809 in a unpretentious hut in Kentucky as son of poor farmers. Already with nine years Abraham lost his mother and he only visited his elementary school for one year.
With nineteen he first left his hometown as worker on a ship. He sailed down the Mississippi to New Orleans.
In 1832 he moved to New Salem/Illinois, where he tried out and failed different jobs.
At least he decided to study law, to become a lawyer. To the same time he started to operate in politics and already in 1834 he was voted in the parliament of Illinois and in 1837 he settled down in Springfield, the capital city of his state.
In 1842 he married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4th and his wife beard him four sons, three of them died early.
In 1847 - 49 he served one two-year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. After this he resumed
