Austraila's animals

Australia is famous for its animals. The reason for this is that Australia separated from the other continents very early and its animals could develop differently to those on the other continents. That is the reason there are some animals which are only be found here.
Australia, which is the smallest continent, is the home of about 150 different kinds of marsupials. Marsupials are animals whose babies are born prematurely. At birth they are about 1-2 cm long and weigh ca. 2 grams. After being born they climb into a skinpouch on their mother's where they stay for another two to seven months, depending on the kind. Then they can survive outside the pouch but they still live with their mothers for quite a long time, even getting back into the pouch in times of danger. One of Australians most famous marsupials is the kangaroo of which 51 different species are known. The kangaroo can be from 50 cm to 2 m large, depending on which kind it is. It lives
