Ants, my best friends
Today we know about 15000 different species of ants. In one colony there live thousands of ants with one or several queens. All ants are social and statebuilding insects like honeybees, but they have a category of female, wingless and infertile workers. The queens of ants throw away their wings after only one wedding fly. The males are winged too and they mate with the queen during the fly or on the earth. The queen lay eggs and founds a new state. We different two categories of individuals, one is the category of the workers and the other is the category of the soldiers. The tasks of the workers are to find food and materials to build the hill and to provide the larvae. The soldiers protect the colony and fight against enemies. Ants build their nests existing of rooms and corridors under stones and trunks. Some species build their nests like hills of earth or material of plants. In a nest there can live some hundred till 20 millions of ants. In europe
