"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens wrote this Christmas story. He was born on 7th February 1812 in Landport. He began to work at the age of twelve. He worked for the "Morning Chronicle". He wrote also Pickwick Papers and Oliver Twist. He became the best-selling writer in English. He died on 9th January 1870.
The main characters are Scrooge, an old and angry man, Marley's ghost, the three spirits, Fred, Scrooge's nephew.
Scrooge was a hard, friendless, old and cold man but he had money. On Christmas Eve Scrooge's nephew Fred came to his office. Fred wished him a merry Christmas and he invited Scrooge to celebrate Christmas with him. But Scrooge said only "Humbug" and that poor people had nothing to celebrate. Scrooge didn't like Christmas. After Fred two people came in the office. They wanted money for the poor but Scrooge gave them nothing.
In the afternoon Scrooge sat in his room at home and he heard something. It was Marley's ghost. He
