The ten years lasting Trojan War in front oft the Citadel of Ilion is now on climax and dramatically affects the life of its inhabitants.
In the female character of queen Andromache, Homer typifies an heroic acting woman of the Trojan society, wife of the hero Hektor and mother of Astyanax. To demonstrate Hektor's heroic qualities the polarised character of 'deep-girdled' Andromache is essential. In their touching dialogue at the Skaian gates, Andromache conveys convincing arguments, not to fight the Achaians; she fears Achilleus above all. Andromache foreshadows Hektor's dead. She accuses him not to have 'pity' with her and Astyanax, brings into account all her emotions and strongest arguments to convince Hektor. Hektor awares the responsibility for the royal family. but for him it is expected to gain 'kléos' .
